The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my Saviour.
2 Samuel 22:2-3
Faith in Christ Through Life Challenges
Faith in Jesus Christ is crucial when navigating through life. All of us are presented with life’s great challenges at one point or another, and these challenges can either cripple us with feelings of despair, or strengthen us into something greater. Leaning upon the Lord and having faith in him will brighten our lives; leading us to joy, happiness and success. I believe that with all my heart!
Where to Turn When We Are Hurting
Upon reflecting on the last two years of my life, and the many unexpected trials and hardships my family has endured. It was through these difficult trials that I found myself contemplating my faith the most. During the darkest of times, I felt tremendous loss and fear. It seemed that the only time I felt warmth and peace was down on my knees; asking, even begging God for courage and strength to help me endure. My prayers were never left unanswered. Each time, I felt the deep and tremendous love my Savior has for me. The frequent tender mercies were confirmation of his individual awareness of me. What would any of us do without the Savior? He is my rock and my shield; standing firm and unwavering against the great storms of life. Through him, I know I can endure ALL things.
Why I Chose to Paint Christ as a Way to Cope
My experience inspired the creation of this painting. I wanted to paint Christ because I knew the peace this project would bring into my life, as well as my family’s lives. As I thought of Christ, I envisioned him standing strong and firm as a “high tower”, among his beautiful creation (the Earth); the forceful wind gusts, passing through his robe, tossing it too and fro. But the Savior remains still, like a rock; feet planted firmly in the ground. His expression conveys peace, and he’s facing into the light. Through him, we too can feel peace and comfort in the calamities of life as we turn toward the light.
Upon completing my painting, I noticed that many of the lines in the red-rock cliffs point directly to Christ. In relation to life, how often in our daily pursuits do we fail to recognize the simple signs directing us to Christ? Are we so busy that we miss his presence in all things? My hope is that my painting can bring hope to those who feel lost in the struggle; that they too, can lean on the Savior for support through the most difficult of times, and seek refuge in the great storms of life.
Elder Rasband stated, in the first session of October 2018 General Conference: “When we stand with the Lord, we are standing on holy ground.” With Christ by our side, we need not fear. As you watch my time lapse video of the painting process, may you feel Christ’s power and strength, and be inspired to make the necessary changes in your life that will bring the greatest happiness to you and all who surround you.
With much love,
